What is Figure Skating?
Figure Skating is a sport where athlete glide across a thick sheet of slippery ice on boots with attached "blades". In singles (which is what I do), skaters perform jumps with rotations and "spins" where a skater's body is in different positions. Starting with the Juvenile level, there will be a judging system using points for specific "elements" (jumps, spins, and footwork, or step sequences) in the skater's program on a set time based on their gender or level. Certain jumps count as points, while others count for "decorations", with an addition to the program component score (PCS). Almost all spins are counted as a technical element.
In my level, I qualify for Sectionals through placing well at Regionals, then qualify for Nationals by placing well at Sectionals. I compete on behalf of the South Atlantic Region.
